Overview:

The Sustainability Project Manager will be an integral member of Vanderweil’s Sustainability team, responsible for leading projects of varying size and complexity; overseeing Assistant Project Managers; driving in-house knowledge management and trainings under the direction of the Sustainability Leader. 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead sustainability projects through development, initiation, planning, execution, control and closing of projects and ensures consistent practices throughout all phases of the project life cycle including LEED, WELL, Fitwel, LBC, SITES, etc.
  • Leads activities such as scheduling project status update meetings with project teams and be responsible to gather information and prepare meeting minutes and schedule updates.
  • Responsible to take input from a cross functional project teams to develop and maintain a detailed project schedule and execute a high quality, integrated cross-functional plan for projects.
  • Use defined project management practices and procedures to solve problems of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Assists sustainability team and projects in strategic meetings and follow-up.
  • Manage the planning and execution of in-house sustainability product development projects while adhering to budget, scope and schedule requirements.
  • Facilitate innovative solutions and creative problem solving between groups and individuals.
  • Interact effectively and appropriately with a cross functional teams in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Marketing, and Operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ degree in business, engineering and/ or architecture.
  • Minimum of 5 years of project management experience, preferably on sustainability projects.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in design of new construction and commercial interior projects.
  • LEED AP BD+C or LEED ID+C is required; WELL AP is a bonus but not necessary, however it will be mandatory to earn accreditation.
  • Strong experience with MS Project, Excel, Word, and LEED Online is required.
  • Experience in creating meeting agendas, meeting minutes, project correspondence, documentation, and presentations for sustainability projects.
  • Must be able to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Must be able to react to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently and be flexible during times of change.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the proven ability to function effectively and tactfully with multiple departments and personnel, able to gain consensus and commitment. 
  • Green Building, Engineering and/or Architect background strongly recommended.
  • Adaptable, quick learner, very detail oriented.

Vanderweil Engineers has an opportunity for an experienced Business Professional to oversee our corporate administrative operations and staff, reporting directly to the CFO.  Responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and delegating day-to-day functions for support staff consisting of the Administrative Team, Mailroom, Shop Drawings, and Reception
  • Conducting employee evaluations and performance reviews
  • Hiring and managing the onboarding process for new administrative employees
  • Negotiating terms and conditions and managing contracts for vending, travel, airlines, auto-rental, hotels, and print management programs, along with office supplies and shipment/courier companies
  • Managing PE licensing and Continuing Education programs
  • Planning and execution of off-site company events

The Power Group at Vanderweil Engineers has an opportunity for an experienced Structural Engineer to join our growing team in the Boston office. Will utilize Revit and various engineering software to design foundations and supporting structures  for Power generation equipment.  These heavy industrial projects will also include large chillers and boilers.  Work is also involved with structural support for various size and model turbines.  Should have five (5) to ten (10) years overall experience with prior Consulting Engineering experience. Civil Engineering degree required. 

PLUMBING ENGINEER

Opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to work on Plumbing systems for regional Commercial projects, Healthcare clients and higher education institutions.  Will employ Vanderweil and Industry related (ASPE) quality standards for all aspects of piping layouts and related equipment selection.  Engineering on drainage systems, water supply, and medical gas systems. Will utilize Revit to produce design and construction documents. May make trips to field sites as necessary to survey the systems installed.  BSME or BSFPE, or equivalent professional experience. 0-3 years' experience in Plumbing and/or HVAC design is preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills required.

Project Assistant

We are seeking an energetic, detail-oriented person to provide project administration support for our Shop Drawings department in our Boston office. Responsibilities will include processing submittals and RFI’s, change orders, e-filing, project closeouts, providing occasional reception/switchboard and mailroom backup support. Must have excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills with a proactive approach to follow up, be very detail-oriented, be able to prioritize and handle multiple deadline-driven tasks efficiently, possess strong interpersonal skills with a positive attitude, work well in a team environment as well as independently with self-initiative and motivation. This position involves extensive technical database data entry, data transfer, and e-document management.  Knowledge of Prolog, NewForma, Procore and other project tracking databases software would be a plus. Proficiency with MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Bluebeam Revu, FTP transfer, and manipulation of PDF format documents is required. Prior project administration experience in a design engineering, architectural, or construction services company is preferred.

Lead Substation Engineer, sought by R.G. Vanderweil Engineers, LLP, Multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm, to be responsible for detailed electrical design of electrical substation projects for power grid infrastructure including entirely new facilities, as well as major additions, rehabilitation, and retrofit projects of electric substation equipment. Ensure compliance with FERC/NERC environmental, safety and utility grid standards and policies. Perform detailed engineering functions including layout of electrical stations, design of station single line and three line drawings, AC and DC Schematics, switchboard panel layout, wiring diagrams, grounding systems, direct stroke lightning protection systems, and other substation related engineering. Direct and guide team of engineers/designers/drafters in support of assigned tasks. Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering assignments involving multiple major projects requiring the evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria applicable to functional area of assignment. Determine and document project estimate, scope and schedule. Set and evaluate design options and criteria for technical merit; conduct field visits, verify equipment parameters and determine applicable codes and system specification requirements. Assign project tasks to project team members so that new facilities are provided to customers when needed and within budget. Monitor and coordinate team members’ assigned duties. Prepare documentation and conduct meetings. Write equipment specifications for major electrical equipment to insure proper operation and personnel safety. Appraise and recommend equipment purchases. Direct, monitor, and review designs; interface with client. Approve electrical drawings for manufacturers. Witness major electrical apparatus factory tests. Verify that specs are followed. Accept or reject results of tested equipment. Maintain accurate substation drawings and records. Approve electrical drawings for construction. Develop energization cut-over procedures to minimize customer outages and maximize personnel safety. Provide support to client in temporary equipment setups. Oversee construction work to resolve technical issues that may arise in different phases, including field visits. Provide technical support and interact with legal and environmental groups for licensing/permitting processes.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or related field and ten years of work experience in the job offered or related field of substation design or heavy industrial power systems; or, in the alternative, a Master’s degree or equivalent in the above fields and eight years of work experience.

Must have a Professional Engineer (PE) License in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Will be assigned to a project team in the HVAC department and will contribute to design of HVAC ductwork using tools such as Revit and Autocad.  Duties also include research of equipment and related code issues and review of vendor drawings.  Engineers will perform calculations and initiate communication with other engineering departments or outside subcontractors.  Engineers will visit field sites and attend meetings with subcontractors, architects and building owners as they progress in knowledge and experience.  Advancement to a technical lead role is expected and the opportunity to be involved with project management also.  Prior experience in a Consulting or Construction related company is preferred along with an EIT orPE license.   Salaried position with full benefits.
