Mind the Gaps: Post-Occupancy Discoveries from Design to Operation

Vanderweil has piloted post-occupancy review to determine how buildings are used and to discover avoidable gaps in installation, operation, and maintenance, which can result in excess energy and resource use. Post-occupancy evaluation requires a small investment but yields results that can help alleviate owner issues with energy consumption, controls, circulation, and operational strategy. This session will share ways that project design, process, requirements, and communication can influence responsible use of building resources after occupancy; how post occupancy evaluations can strengthen the relationship between the owner and design team; and describe how the RGV360 program has helped evaluate and inform our design approach for future projects.
