University of Florida, Herbert Wertheim Laboratory for Engineering Excellence
The University of Florida's new Wertheim Laboratory building is a five-story 84,000 sf state-of-art interdisciplinary engineering building, housing faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students. Spaces include biotech labs, tissue culture, microscopy, 3D printer labs, fabrication labs, computer lab, robotics lab, graduate bullpens, teaching studios, meeting spaces, conference rooms, lounges, offices, and support spaces. The building is served by two 50,000 cfm custom air handling units located in the penthouse, and two 27,000 cfm high plume lab exhaust fans on the roof, with glycol heat recovery coils. Normal power is fed by a 1000 kVA exterior pad-mounted transformer, and a 400 kW diesel emergency generator located on grade provides the emergency and standby power. Lab gasses include central vacuum and compressed air, and local cylinders for carbon dioxide.
