The Moxy Hotel is located in Boston’s Theater District and is the first branded hotel in the city. Vanderweil is providing MEP/FP engineering, technology design, and sustainability services for the design of this 24-story, 142,500 sf hotel. The 364 rooms in the Moxy are small at 175 sf each. The three lower levels of the hotel house the lobby, a kitchen and dining space, bar/lounge, meeting rooms, fitness center, restrooms, and general support spaces. As on-site laundry facility is located on the basement level in addition to back-of-house support spaces. Project challenges include close coordination of the MEP infrastructure using BIM due to the small size of the keys; meeting Boston’s Stretch Energy Code while supporting a high percentage of glazing, and designing infrastructure to support the full service kitchen.
The project has achieved the following award:
- Recipient of the Engineering News-Record (ENR) New England, Residential/Hospitality Category, Merit Award (2020)
