The project captures underutilized space with the existing Gymnasium to create flexible and collaborative learning spaces, and improve the accessibility of the campus. The project includes a large Exhibit Hall atrium space, art classrooms, media rooms, crit rooms, collaborative and lighting studios, and a large woodshop with dust collection system. Building HVAC is sourced from two evaporative cooled rooftop units feeding down into the space. The atrium’s smoke exhaust system was carefully designed to minimize infrastructure costs. Sophisticated lighting and lighting controls were required to serve the building’s program. A DCAM project, the building was designed to comply with Mass LEED© Plus Standards, with 20% energy savings against the Appendix G baseline, and LEED Silver© certified.
